Analyze Results with Plots in the Analysis View🔗

This article describes some features, which help you to analyze results.

Create a y(x) chart🔗

For line charts and scatter charts you can create y(x) charts, means you can (re-)define the independent variable (x-axis variable).

To create a y(x) chart (show y = f(x)), drag the desired variable from the CALCULATED VALUES tree to the X-axis of the desired chart.
To get a y(time) chart, drag time from the CALCULATED VALUES tree and drop it on the X-axis.

Note, that this function is not limited to specific charts like line or scatter charts.

Create a y(cases) chart (only Scatter charts)🔗

Especially for multi-run analyses, where you optimize or calibrate model parameters, it can make sense to display the results of the cases over the case numbers.

  1. Create a Scatter chart for your desired variable
  2. Select this plot
  3. Go to the right sidebar, panel EXPERIMENT
  4. In option X axis, switch from "Default" to "All cases"

Note

Default drop-down will be in selected state for multi steady state analysis only but in dynamic analysis All cases drop-down will be in selected state.

Use legends of plots🔗

By default, you will not see any legends by default, as this ensures that as much space as possible is reserved for the actual charts.

There are two types of legends:

  • Local legends per plot
  • One global legend for all plots

Local legends🔗

  1. Select the desired plot, where you want to display a legend
  2. In the right sidebar, select one out of these (option Legend): "No legend" (default), "Bottom", or "Right"

Global legend🔗

You can also show a global legend for the entire dashboard.
In the lower right corner, you find this button: to open the global legend.
To close the global legend, just click in its lower right corner:

The global legend displays a list of all variables shown in the plots. The same variable has the same color in all plots. The same Result has the same color shade in all plots.

Get values from plots🔗

There are multiple ways to "read" the values shown in plots:

  • Hover over the dots (Scatter chart), the lines (Line chart), or the bars (Histogram) and check the values in the tooltip.
  • Use the global case selector to get a tooltip, which shows you the parameter modifications for a particular case.
  • Use the global time slider to add a vertical crossing line in all time-based plots.
  • Download results as MAT or CSV files.
  • Make a screenshot of your plot as PNG, to use in other tools (see figure).

Global case selector🔗

For multi-run analyses, you typically have many lines or dots in your plots and then it is hard to identify which case is represented by which line or dot. Furthermore, the tooltip and legends show only the variable values of the Y-axis, but it is also interesting which parameters were the input for the particular case (e.g. for Parameter sweeps).

  1. For multi-run results, you can use the global case selector (~ slider).
  2. Use the playhead or the input field to select a case.
Then, the corresponding lines or dots will be highlighted in all plots.
  3. The tooltip at the playhead shows the values of the parameter modifications for the selected case.

Compare results from different simulations🔗

The Analysis View allows us to compare results. In principle, one or more results are always compared with the primary result. To compare results, first switch to multi-select mode in the SIMULATIONS browser:

By default, the last result is always selected as the primary result. You can change this by

  1. selecting your desired result in the SIMULATIONS browser, and then
  2. select “Set as primary result” from the right-click menu.

Now you can select more than one result in the SIMULATIONS browser, and deselect a result by clicking on it.

As soon as you have selected a further result, the corresponding traces are added to the plots. The legend and tooltip reflect the result name you see in the SIMULATIONS browser.

Note

You can rename a result to give a unique name (via the right-click menu in the SIMULATIONS browser).

Zoom in/out in plots (time slider/range selector)🔗

Plot toolbar🔗

The plots come with some built-in zooming tools. When you hover over a plot you can see this toolbar:

  • Zoom in with a box:
  • Zoom in:
  • Zoom out:
  • Reset zoom (reset to autoscale) ...
    • by using
    • or just double-click in the plot panel.

Finally, you can also pan (move) the visible chart in the plot:

Global time and time range selector🔗

When there are time-based plots in your dashboard (Analysis View), a time and range selector is available at the bottom of the page. You can use this tool to ...

  • select a specific point in time by moving the playhead, or by entering a number in the input field.
  • This will apply a vertical dashed line in all plots, which helps you to identify the point in time you have selected in the plots.

Furthermore, you can use this tool for a synchronized zoom on all plots. For this, use the range selectors to specify the left and right limits of your zoom. The Y-axis will not be zoomed.
