Evaporator Frost
Evaporator with frost formation
This is an example of a heat exchanger testbench that uses an evaporator with frost models enabled. The boundary conditions are constant except for the refrigerant outlet pressure.
For low outlet pressure, the refrigerant temperature goes below 0 °C and frost will form on the walls of the air side. With the growing frost layer, the heat flow decreases continuously and the pressure drop on the air side continuously increases. For the high outlet pressure, the refrigerant temperature goes above 0 °C and the built-up frost layer will thaw. The heat flow increases continuously and the air side pressure drop decreases continuously until no frost remains.
