HXL Version 2.13

Heat Exchanger Library 2.13 is part of Modelon's 2024.2 release. New versions of Modelon's libraries are sold and distributed directly from Modelon, as well as approved resellers.

Version 2.13 contains the changes described below.

New features

  • Fin-on-tube heat exchangers with tubes going from one tube column to another multiple times and in arbitrary order is now supported. To specify such geometry the "flowScheme_custom" parameter on the geometry record need to be modifed and an array given that state the number in sequence from inlet to outlet for each row and column.

Improvements

  • Simulation performance has been improved for two-phase fluid flow at zero flow rate and at phase boundary crossings. Changes for this improvement affect how large fraction of each control volume is considered to be in two-phase region for the heat transfer calculation, and how correlations behave at very low or very high vapor quality (regions which are usually not correlated from experimental data). Becasue of these changes, simulation results may change for existing models when upgrading from older versions of HXL.

Bug fixes

  • In Fin-on-tube heat exchangers a bug has been fixed that caused geometry values given at the "geometry" record instance found on the component diagram view not to be properly accounted for. Values given to geometry (lower case g) now is always accounted for and take precedence over value given in "Geometry" (upper case G) at the component parameter dialog. The difference between the two is that Geometry is a class, allowing different parameter sets to be stored in a library and selected in a drop-down list, whereas geometry is a normal parameter. The parameter cannot be taken from a library, but is needed to do parameter sweeps with pre-compiled models. To reduce risk of confusion the diagram view of "geometry" has been removed and is instead available on the Advanced tab of the parameter dialog. Editing "geometry" is only recommended when it is required and care should be taken not to forget that values set there will override values in Geometry.
