LCL Version 3.0

Liquid Cooling Library 3.0 is part of Modelon's 2025.2 release.

New versions of Modelon libraries are sold and distributed directly from Modelon, as well as approved resellers.

Version 3.0 is updated to be compliant with Modelon Base Library 6.0.

New features

  • New features for very fast liquid network simulations:
    • Possibility to simplify model equations without accuracy loss by more effective propagation of fluid properties between components. Enable by setting the Advanced tab parameter "temperatureFromUpstream" to true. This can also be enabled for all LCL components at once using the Settings_LCL component.
    • When positive flow rate (no reversal) can be assumed, model reduction is now more thorough and results in more simulation speed-up than before. Use the Advanced tab parameter "positiveFlow" to enable this assumption. This can also be enabled for all LCL components at once using the Settings_LCL component.
    • For technical details on these model simplifications, see these information pages.
  • StratifiedTank and StratifiedTankInternalHX models have been added to the library. These models support the simulation of thermal energy storage systems by capturing stratification effects and internal heat exchange. The internal HX variant enables modeling of secondary fluid circuits for integrated heating or cooling. Example models are included to demonstrate typical use cases and validate thermal layering, flow dynamics, and energy transfer behavior.
  • A new visualization option has been added to the LCL components, based on mass flow rate, in addition to the existing temperature and pressure options. The DistributedFluidNetwork experiment demonstrates this mass flow visualization.
  • Coolant network system have been added in the library. This system model serves as an example to demonstrate the liquid coolant network model for thermal management of vehicles. The experiment consists of a cabin, battery, charger, inverter and motor. All of these components are modeled as lumped volumes with direct heat input specified in the System Controller.
  • Summary records have been added for all LCL library components, including Volumes, SplitsAndJoins, Valves, and others.
  • The dynamic flow arrowhead now updates in all library components, with its travel distance scaling to the mass flow rate. User can set its minimum and maximum displacement of the arrow head via the m_flow_min and m_flow_max of visualization setting parameters.
