DCL Version 1.0

Version 1.0 is the first full release of the Data Center Library (DCL), delivering a simulation-ready toolset for system-level modelling of data center cooling infrastructure across both air-cooled and liquid-cooled architectures.

New features🔗

Chillers

  • Low-fidelity models — empirical chiller models for air-cooled (AirCooled) and liquid-cooled (LiquidCooled) configurations based on the ReformulatedEIR performance curve approach.
  • High-fidelity models — physics-based chillers using Vapor Cycle Library and Heat Exchanger Library components.
  • Chiller subsystems — plant assemblies including a standard liquid-cooled chiller plant and a water-side economizer (WSE) integrated plant with automatic FC / PMC / FMC mode switching.

Cooling Towers

  • Dry cooling tower model (DryCoolingTower) with configurable effectiveness, friction, and air/water flow parameters.

Facility Equipment

  • Racks — simple air-cooled racks and rear-door liquid-cooled manifold racks.
  • CRAH — computer room air handlers with configurable air and liquid flow rates.
  • CDU — coolant distribution units for secondary technical cooling loops.
  • Pumps — pump components for facility and technical loops.

System Examples

Eight fully connected, simulation-ready system examples are included:

  • AirCooledChillerSystem — air-cooled chiller with three CRAH units and air racks.
  • StandardChillerSystem — liquid-cooled chiller plant with cooling tower, CRAH, and CDU.
  • ChillerWithEconomizerSystem — WSE-integrated chiller plant with automatic mode switching.
  • MultiChillerSystem — N parallel chiller plants with shared header, CRAH, and CDU.
  • DetailedChillerSystem — high-fidelity VCL/HXL chiller in a full cooling loop.
  • EmpiricalChillerSystem — low-fidelity chiller variant of the detailed system.
  • SetPointOptimization — parametric set-point study with WSE plant and air rack.
  • HybridRackOptimization — set-point optimisation across 12 hybrid manifold racks with CDU.

Utilities and Records

  • ReformEIR chiller performance records.
  • PropyleneGlycolWater25 media definition for TCS loops.
  • Temperature and power visualiser components.
